I live in an upstairs apartment.
I like doing home repairs and learning a thing or two.
When something goes wrong in my place, I don’t call the landlord, I do it myself. Well I started redoing the flooring in my bathroom. It was squishy, out of date, and I got the okay to replace it. Well I got too overzealous in my sewing and cutting. I ended up going through the flooring and hitting a pipe. I cracked the pipe and water shot everywhere. I of course had no kind of tape or way to stop it. I had to run around like an idiot while water went everywhere. After I secured it I realized I needed to mop up my floors. Then I got that done and the guy below me started shouting about water coming out of his ceiling. Guess I didn’t get that pipe repaired very well. I ended up calling an emergency plumber to fix what I did. I didn’t want my landlord to know I almost wrecked the plumbing in his bathroom. The plumber was really good about the pipe repair. The pipe was easily accessible due to my work. He just replaced a portion and I was good to go. It was a small bill and not a lot of work. The issue was the clean up to my place and then I cleaned the downstairs apartment since that felt fair. I don’t consider myself a DIY plumber anymore. I stay away from pipes, drainage, and water. I leave that to the experts.
